Kitchen, 33 Apocalypse Ave., Saturday Morning

There were certain advantages to having been on the island for most of three years.

For example, when one woke up and saw a woman looking back from the mirror over one's dresser, the experienced male Fandomite who'd been through this twice before did not shriek -- or at least, he didn't if he was Jack.

Instead, Jack permitted himself one streak of swearing, then took a picture of his new ... assets to send to Emma to tease her. Then he pulled on a t-shirt and yoga pants Emma had forgotten when she moved back to school, twisted his hair into a knot, and padded into a kitchen to start the pot of coffee.

He wondered if he ought to wake Kaidan and Ronan to warn them, but decided against it. A sudden switch in genders was really the sort of thing you had to discover on your own.

Derek had clothing that didn't fit and a bad attitude. Only one part of that sentence was new, though.

"What the hell is happening?" he demanded. Yes, he was in the kitchen, Jack. This was a... Derek thing. What was a little breaking and entering between wolf-bros?

"You're in my kitchen," Jack said, momentarily distracted from Derek's actual question by that. "Did you steal a key, or do you pick locks?"

Of course he recognized Derek; the attitude would have given it away, even if his (slightly altered) scent hadn't.

"And," he added, "we get to be women for a day or two. Thrilling, isn't it?"

He did not sound thrilled.

Derek, oddly, did not look like it was thrilling to him. At all. And he picked the lock. With his claws.

"Great."

"Isn't it just?" Jack sighed. "It happened back in January, too. Usually the island doesn't do it more than once in a year."

Derek's arms were crossed over his chest. At least he didn't have too much in the way there. But his shoulders were noticeably smaller. So that shirt just hung on him.

Ugh.

"But it goes away?"

"Thankfully," Jack said. He was slight as a man, even slighter as a woman; even Emma's clothes were a size or two too large. "This is my third time through it."

Derek was just going to glower in the general direction of his new found ladyparts. Glower them into submission.

"Are you actually glaring at your breasts?" Jack asked, managing not to sound like he was about to laugh. "Don't. What have they done to you?"

"This is going to take some getting used to," Kaidan said.

He was wearing his uniform pants and an old Alliance t-shirt. It was not entirely comfortable.

"It goes away," Jack said, nostrils flaring briefly as he recognized Kaidan by scent. "Did anyone warn you? I try to forget about it when it's over."

"I... had warnings," Kaidan agreed. He was still looking at his hands in a way that defined the word 'non-plussed'. "You're-- Jack?"

"Or else your other short blond housemate," Jack said. "I suppose I could go by Jackie, but that's a terrible name."

His eyes flickered over Kaidan. "You didn't come out too badly."

Kaidan's eyebrows slid briefly into a frown before he said, "I guess. I haven't really, uh. Looked. Seemed kind of-- I don't know. Disrespectful."

"How?" Jack asked, utterly baffled. "It's your body, we didn't steal them from real women."

At least, he hoped not.

"It's not really mine, though, is it?" Kaidan said. He took a step forward; his ankle briefly glowed blue and he nearly went barreling forward. "Dammit--"

"I have some clothes that might fit you better, if you want," Ronan suggested. "Or I could alter something for you, too -- I've got some clothing creation and modification spells."

Really, his kind of magic did everything.

"No, I'm good," Kaidan said. He was staying put where he was - thinking about going back to bed, actually. "I don't think I'll be going out today. If you don't mind."

He had a feeling this was Ronan, yes.

"... Why would I mind?"

Yeah, Ronan was having more trouble with that thought than anything else. "Anything I can do for you? I remember it being kind of... uncomfortable, the first time around."

"It's definitely strange," Kaidan admitted. "Moreso because I'm used to knowing what every muscle in my body does..."

He shot Ronan a glance. "I'm just going to grab some food for the rest of the day and hide out, I think."

Ronan swore. "Shit, your biotics. Want me to put the food together for you?"

"If you want," Kaidan said, rubbing the back of his neck very carefully. "But really, I owe you. I kind of rearranged some of our furniture. Uh, not on purpose."

Ronan had woken up, taken a look down at himself when things seemed a little... differently balanced, and then grabbed the clothes he kept in the back of his closet instead.

Which is why he was whistling cheerfully as he came into the kitchen, ready to snag some of that coffee he smelled.

Well, at least one person in the kitchen was cheerful.

"How many times have you been through this now?" Jack asked. "It's my third. I believe I've learned what I can from it."

Ronan had to stop to think about that. "Once or twice on island, and at least three times I can think of while I was off-planet -- some of the place I visited had some interesting customs, and occasionally it was a useful disguise -- so... say five?"

"And didn't you dress up as your imaginary sister that weekend I was a vampire?" Jack asked, trying to remember. "Either way, you're more experienced than I am."
