Room 324, Arms Hotel, Saturday Evening
Jun. 18th, 2011 08:05 pmThe first time Jack felt a faint tickle against his arm, he brushed it away without glancing up from his reading.
The second time, he tore his eyes away from the history of the Irish Republican Army and found himself faced with a metal spider the size of a kitten.
The nice thing about his book was that it was perfectly weighted to serve as an impromptu weapon. His scream? Well, that was a bonus to ... scare it away. Yes.
Once that spider was crushed to mechanical smithereens, he checked around his room for more and spotted a score of similarly-sized creatures crawling up the far wall, by the bathroom door.
It was a good thing he had plenty of books, and a strong pair of heavy boots. He wasn't quite sure what clockwork spiders could do if they bit you, but he knew he would much prefer not to find out.
