33 Apocalypse Ave., Sunday Morning

To go by the dance the day before, half of creation had come back to the island for the weekend. Jack decided to ignore the paranoid edge niggling at him about how that was just asking for the island to get into one of its nastier moods in favor of getting a nice breakfast together. Ronan was staying for the weekend, as was Emma (of course), and he suspected there might be a former housemate or two who would want to stop by for the sake of nostalgia.

So he went to J,GOB's early that morning and bought a nice breakfast spread -- a few dozen bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon and other fixings, plus a dozen assorted muffins for anyone who didn't appreciate the nirvana that was a really good bagel. He brewed a large pot of coffee and settled in with a poppyseed bagel liberally piled with salmon. Even if no one else showed up, this was an entirely civilized way to start a Sunday.

"Probably humane, as I doubt any amount of coffee will ever make me human," Emma quipped. "Good morning, darling. Ready to work?"

[intraspective]

"Always," she said promptly, which was probably more true than it ought to be. Then Ino frowned. "Though I'm afraid that I don't remember exactly what we were going to work on."

One of the side-effects of mako poisoning was, in fact, memory loss.

"You're going to have to remind me."

"That," Emma said, pointing at Ino's head. "We're starting with memory retention and restoration, since I've done that quite often. Then we'll move on to basic reintegration of your personalities."

[intraspective]

"Oh," Ino said, blinking. "I like this plan. Yes, please."

Seriously, seriously, she liked this plan.

"I don't think I'm missing a lot," though more than she knew, since, well, it was hard to keep track of that when you were forgetting it, "but it's getting worse."

Ino did know that.

"If you don't think you're missing a lot, that's usually a sign you're missing more than you think," Emma said, having dealt with people with memory issues before. "And I'll leave a memory-imprint of what we did in there for you, and make sure it's protected from degradation, so you can keep going back and making tweaks if you need to."

[intraspective]

"You know better than me in this case," she said, looking rather rueful. "And the memory-imprint thing sounds even better. Is it hard to do? Anything you want from me?"

[icecoldfrost]

"Hard? No, but it's detailed so takes some time to do properly. And I want nothing from you that I'm not already getting," Emma said bluntly. "It's too rare for me to practice my skills."

[intraspective]

"Then I guess this works out well for both of us," Ino said lightly, though she didn't feel nearly so flippant about it as she sounded. "Whenever you're ready, then, I guess?"
