Jack's Room, 33 Apocalypse Ave., Sunday Morning

After he got back to the island, Jack spent most of the day Saturday parked in front of intentionally bad TV. It was easier not to think about what had happened in Beacon Hills if he was staring at Kardashian Kleavage. He went to bed early, fell into a dreamless sleep.

Sunday had promised more of the same until he checked his school email and realized his midterms were during the coming week. He groaned and turned on his laptop. Werewolf angst could wait: Right now, he had to pull a half-decent paper on the Bayeaux tapestry together if he had any hope of passing the last class for his major.

Which would be when Derek let himself right on into the house to find Jack. On the plus side, he had two coffees from the Perk.

"Jack."

Really, at this stage in their relationship Jack would have felt vaguely slighted if Derek hadn't let himself in. He nodded a greeting, then gestured for Derek to wait while he finished typing his sentence.

Once that was done: "Hey. Good morning."

And then a sniff. Somebody smelled suspiciously like Stiles this morning.

Derek manfully ignoring the sniff, only turning slightly red under all that stubble. "I have to go back to Beacon Hills to cut my uncle in half."

Aw yeah, rip that band-aid right off.

"I thought he burned up."

Tactful!

"And I slit his throat." Which was a thing that had happened. "Stiles said he comes back."

Like a bad pair of socks.

Jack made a face. "How is there even enough of him left?" he asked, then sighed. "...I should know not to ask things like that."

Because of course the man who had been comatose for six years, had his throat slit, and then burned to ashes, would be up and walking around later. Naturally.

"Peter was always clever," Derek said with a sigh, putting down the coffees to take a seat. "Whatever my mother knew, he knew. Laura wasn't done learning it all when everything happened."

Jack reached over and took his cup, look of thoughtful concern not leaving his face.

"Are you sure you want to cut him in half?"

Other than the crazy killer werewolf part, Peter sounded like a useful person to have around. And he was, after all, Derek's only living family.

"Yes." Knowing how some of the things went, he'd rather do this without a psychotic family member lurking around. "I can't trust someone who lured my sister to her death."

Your phone is ringing, Jack! Because Emma wants to check and make sure you haven't been eaten by your midterms yet.

Jack nodded slowly. If Peter had gotten his sister killed, he might have made the exact same choice.

"Do you want me to come along?"

He wasn't sure he wanted to. But he felt he should offer.

Derek looked like he wanted to say yes to that, but shook his head. "I'll do it."

"Hi, Emma." Jack sounded happy to hear from her. "I miss you."

[bitten_notshy]

"But you don't want to," Jack observed, and then had a brief internal war. This wasn't his job, but --

"You should at least bring someone, if the police still want you."

"I need to get it worked out anyway," Derek said, shrugging it off as he grabbed his coffee once again.

[bitten_notshy]

"You do," Jack nodded, watching Derek for just a moment. "How are you feeling? I'm all healed up, thank God."

Clint was pretty sure he was on the low end of people Jack might want to talk to, but that wasn't going to stop him from coming by anyway to check on him. He knocked on the door to the house and figured that if Jack shut it in his face, he'd at least know whether or not to talk to him in the future.

"I'm fine." Ahahahahaha. "Control isn't as good as it was before."

[icecoldfrost]

"Of course you do," she agreed cheerfully, her cell tucked against her shoulder as she started setting up to give herself a manicure. "By my estimation, you're in midterms right now, and that's dull. I'm not dull. I'm pretty."

Modest. Totes modest.

"You're stronger than you were before," said Jack, who knew Derek wasn't fine but would let him get away with the lie. "Might just be a matter of time."

"You're prettier than the Bayeux tapestry, I'll give you that," Jack said. It was comforting to have Emma be so thoroughly Emma at him. "No,the studying's fine. If I take a few classes over the summer I'll be ready to graduate in December."

And then ion to law school, because he was a glutton for punishment.

"What are you up to?"

"I--offered the bite to Stiles." In a creepy fashion. "He said no."

Obviously.

Jack did not shut the door in Clint's face. He looked a little surprised to see him: that was all.

"Hello," he said tentatively. "I wasn't expecting a visit."

[icecoldfrost]

"Manicure. Candy and I are going out tonight and we're going to see how long it takes before one of us causes a fight," Emma shared. "And then we're going to get roaring drunk because finals are over and we have an entire week before summer session starts. What color should I paint my nails?"

"I wasn't expecting to visit either but then I realized it might be a nice idea," he said. "I, uh, can come back another time if you're busy. I just wanted to see how you're doing."
