Allie knew that her life hadn't been the greatest. Jack's pity just added to her desire to go back and change things and make them better. Of course the question of how one girl was going to change a whole world still needed to be answered.
"I had a small collection of books I'd scavenged in the ruins and one my mother had given me," Allie told him. "But after I was turned it took a while for me to get back to where I'd been living before...In that time other people moved in. They burned everything just to keep warm."
