Room 324, Arms Hotel, Sunday Evening
May. 15th, 2011 09:43 pmIt was ironic, Jack realized as he settled into the hotel room that would be home for the next few months. Two years before, Jack had regarded Fandom as a barely tolerable interruption in his life with Sebastien -- a kind of necessary evil. These days, he needed Fandom just as much as he needed his day-to-day life, and he had been thrilled that Ms. Cabot had offered him a job so easily. There was no single siren call bringing him to the island: The largest factor was his nagging feeling he kept missing things.
Sebastien ... hadn't really said much about Jack's departure. Jack knew he was being set free, and supposed he should be fighting it. The problem was that he wasn't sure he wanted to; he'd lost a bit of that fierce urge to cling, or else he had more people to cling to.
Satisfied with his unpacking, Jack flopped back on the bed and sent out a quick email to let anyone left on the island know he'd made a triumphant (or not, really) return. In a bit he'd go out to see if he could find any Vikings.
He did not expect the summer to be dull.
