Room 308, Friday Morning

Jack was up half the night Thursday scrubbing pink dye out of his hair. After the fifth go at it with shampoo and a quick self-administered trim to a few scraggly bits that had absorbed more than their fair share of the dye, it was all but back to normal, with just a few blush-tinted strands around his ears.

This was, in his eyes, an essential first step.

After a call to Tony and a nap, he woke up and started to pack. Rationally, he knew he was not the first person to have something odd and embarrassing happen to him -- a love spell, or whatever it had been. He wasn't even the first person to waste time chasing after a straight guy. (And bless Mitchell and Kate for trying to talk sense into him, for all the good it had done.) But he still needed the brief escape of a respite with Sebastien to get him centered in his own head.

He packed quickly and neatly, door cracked open as usual so he could watch the motion in the hallway.

Kate was heading to the common room for breakfast, but as she liked to keep an eye on any weirdness she knew about – in the hopes that if she did, it couldn't creep up on her – and she saw Jack's door was cracked, she stopped to knock lightly on it.

Jack went over to open the door. "Hi, Kate," he said, a little sheepish. "I'm back to myself."

He'd apologize. Eventually.

Kate raised an eyebrow, lips curving into a slight smirk. "Well, that's good to hear. Weirdness over."

"You say that as if it's ever really over," Jack said. He tried for a matching smirk and didn't quite succeed. "For all I know, I'll wake up tomorrow as a bearded lady."

"I don't know, that might even suit you," she remarked. "Probably better than the pink, and acting like an idiot."

"An idiot?" Jack managed a laugh at that. "You wound me, Kate. I was just very much in love."

... with a straight guy. Yeah.

He stepped back, gesturing for her to come in. She'd probably notice the suitcase on his bed.

"I know, you told me," Kate said, stepping into the room. "And it made you an idiot. You're going somewhere?"

"I'm grabbing Tony and going home and not thinking about this place until Monday," Jack said resolutely. "... and I was not an idiot."

He paused. "Maybe a little bit of an idiot."

Kate snickered. "A little bit, definitely. You made some pretty weak arguments back there."

"Oh, probably," Jack said. "Did you have any in mind? It was all a very new situation for me."

"Telling me I was jealous was pretty lame," Kate replied with a light shrug. "But I didn't stop by to repeat your dumb stuff back to you. I just wanted to see whether this particular wave of madness had passed."

jack groaned. "I don't think I even believed that one when I said it," he stated. "I just couldn't think of any other reason people wouldn't support my love. But yes, the madness has passed. I still have no idea what caused it all -- this woman touched my forehead and it went away."

He hadn't quite registered the name 'Aphrodite.' In his defense, the situation had been confusing.

"A woman?" Well, at least then it probably really wasn't Raven. That was good. "So it didn't just go away on its own?" Which in turn meant it probably wasn't the island doing it, after all.

Jack shook his head. "It was a blonde woman in silly clothes. She came up while Priestly and I were talking, said it was the island's fault, and tapped my forehead. I think she vanished into thin air, which is ... about as crazy as the rest of this."

"Just another fun evening in Fandom," Kate snorted. "Doesn't sound like anyone I know. How'd Priestly take it?"

"He was in the middle of telling me he would never love me back when she came up to us," Jack reported. "After that, he seemed to be mostly worried about Dinah."

"No wonder, he told me Dinah was pretty lovestruck too..."

Kate shook her head. "Can't really blame you for wanting a break."

"Dinah was ready to get married," Jack said. "I hope she's all right now."

Kate cringed. "Really, it was that bad? Yeah, I seriously hope she's okay. And I'm sorry, but I'm just so very glad this whole thing skipped me."

"And she has a boyfriend," Jack said, just because Dinah wanting to marry someone she barely knew wasn't bad enough. "I'd say you got lucky, unless you spent last weekend as a Siamese twin or worse. Then I'd say you deserved a break."

"Yeah, no, I was in a coma last weekend," Kate replied. "I think I got off pretty easy with that one."

"I wouldn't mind a coma," Jack said wistfully. "Though the priest thing could have been worse."

Note to Fandom: When thinking you're a priest becomes the better option and comas are to be envied, your life has gone a bit off-track.

Kate snorted. "I did apparently think I was pregnant, though. But I don't really remember that, I just saw the letter I had written for the father."

"... who was the father?"

Certain questions had to be asked.

"Jason Stackhouse."

A vague bit of shame in that, although mostly because of the other things she'd written, or almost written.
