Room 528, Saturday Morning
The sun was almost the same in Emma's room as in Jack's, and for a second when he first woke up he didn't remember where he was. The prom dress over a chair made it clear soon enough, though.
He could get up, but that would break the spell. With eyes half-open, he settled back in under the covers, tracing the curve of Emma's hip lightly with a fingertip.

Emma Frost |
Still asleep, Emma curled instinctively into the warm presence beside her, making an indistinct pleased sound at the touch. She'd wake soon enough, but for now, this was the most perfect dream in the world. |
Felix |
Outside in the hall, a wary little boy shuffled along behind a slightly older blond girl. She said she knew where they were going. She said their papa was the same (though Felix didn't call anyone Papa, not usually). And she scared him a little bit. "Are we at the room yet?" he asked, in English marked with a light but persistent French accent. |
Annika |
Annika resisted the urge to roll her eyes and project right into his head. If he wasn't so convinced that Papa was his papa too, she would have simply left him wandering the halls. Normally she was a very well-behaved girl, but Adventures did not wait for the meek or gentle. "Almost," she promised, carefully reading the numbers on the doors until she stopped in front of her goal, checking with other senses to make sure she was right. "They're in here." |
Felix |
They? But Annika hadn't said anything about Sebastien. Felix gave her a dubious look and raised his fist to knock. Inside the room, Jack stirred, annoyed by the sound. "Who's there?" he called softly. Honestly, didn't people have manners? |
Annika |
Giving the small boy a smug look of 'I told you so,' Annika stepped forward to turn the knob. "Me, Papa," she called softly, cracking the door just slightly. "And some boy." |
Jack Priest |
Jack nudged Emma hard with his elbow as things clicked into place. He'd been told about this, but he hadn't been prepared. He smoothed his hair with both hands and was thankful he'd worn clothes -- well, briefs and a t-shirt -- to bed. "Give your mother and I a second, please." He was hoping Emma had heard about this too. |
Emma |
She swatted at the nudging, pulling the blanket over her head. <<Tell whomever it is to go away,>> she broadcast, not caring who heard her. <<It's the morning after, and I get another half hour of sleep before doing more horribly indecent things to you. They can come back after lunch.>> |
Annika |
<<Mooooooooooooooooooooooooother, broadcasting like that is tacky.>> If it was possible to sound huffy telepathically, Annika was managing it. <<You and Papa already had No Children Time yesterday, now may we please come in?>> |
Jack |
"It's the day after prom, Emma," Jack reminded her softly. "The day after prom. They told us about this." He was already out of bed and had grabbed his tuxedo pants off the floor. "Come in, please. We weren't -- precisely -- expecting you, but we're happy to see you." The little girl's parentage was clear enough, but the little boy got a worried look. |
Felix |
Jack only looked a little younger than he did when Felix knew him, and Felix stepped forward and gave him a hug that was somehow earnest. "She said I'd find you here," he announced. "Who are the girls?" He wanted to know where Sebastien was, too, but he wasn't sure that was a polite question. |
Emma |
Once what Jack had said had sunk in, Emma had moved quickly, grabbing her robe off the floor and pulling it over her sleepwear before the children had entered. "This lady --" not a girl, thank you. "-- is Emma, darling, Emma Frost," she replied, giving the little boy a smile. "Who are you?" |
Annika |
Much to Emma's surprise, however, a little girl was climbing on the bed and into her lap, clearly expecting to be cuddled. "And I, am Annika Liora Priest," she said, copying her mother's tone as she inspected the stray she'd collected. "Who are you?" |
Felix |
Felix's eyes got big as he watched the display, and he didn't move away from Jack. Jack, for his part, had no idea what the boy would say. The hair was right for Rose, but nothing else about him was. He was as curious as Emma or Annika. "Felix Jonathan de Ulloa, Miss Frost," he said, with an old-fashioned bow of his head. "Jack and Sebastien take care of me." |
Emma |
"Another one of Sebastien's protégés, then," she replied, careful not to let her surprise show on her face. "How perfectly lovely." She was going to have a headache; Emma could already tell. |
Jack |
"Perfectly," Jack said, with the slimmest of smiles on his face. "I'm sure this will be a wonderful visit." He was already getting a headache. |
Annika |
Annika's face brightened considerably. "You live with Tío Sebastien?" she exclaimed, clapping her hands in delight. "Papa, you didn't tell me I was getting a cousin!" "How old are you? Tío Sebastien is the best. He's teaching me different languages right now, but I still like Spanish best. Do you speak Spanish?" she asked, not even waiting for poor Felix to answer before launching into a torrent of excited Spanish, all the while not budging from her spot in Emma's lap. Felix could stay. She had decided. It was going to be a wonderfully interesting visit. |
